Sensory Writing
The students are asked to bring a surprise object to school - an object that is kept secret. The students will then organize their ideas for describing this object in a graphic organizer (ideas gathered through the senses). Completing the graphic organizer will be done in class, however, will be sent for homework if it is not completed. The students will then take their ideas from this and write a descriptive paragraph using their sensory ideas. After the paragraphs are written, we will then work in small groups reading our paragraphs and see if the other students in the group can guess the object described. This activity is working on the 6+1 Traits of Writing and introducing the concept of ideas.
